This homemade keto taco seasoning recipe is cheap and only takes a few seconds to throw together!
The flavor is always spot on, it can be made in large batches, and is also naturally gluten-free, paleo, vegan, and whole30 - compliant!
Here are some of the reasons I like to make homemade taco seasoning:
- It's super easy to make, only using common spices you probably already have.
- You control what goes in your blend, making it perfect for your taste
- You don't have to worry about any added gluten, additives, chemicals, preservatives, or food coloring. There are just herbs, spices, and sea salt.
- It's healthier and cheaper than buying a store-bought package.
- There's no added sugar, soy, or chemicals, making it naturally whole30, paleo, and low-carb!
- It can be made and stored in large batches, making taco night extra easy!
The recipe is equal to 1 standard package of tacos seasoning or used for 1 lb of beef, but can be made and stored in bulk!
You simply mix all the ingredients together and store them in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
Then, when ready, simply use 2 Tablespoons + ยฝ teaspoon per 1 lb of meat or in place of 1 taco seasoning package in any recipe!
Easy instructions
Step #1: Brown the beef.
Heat 2 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 lb of beef and cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain off fat if desired.
Step #2: Add the seasoning mix and water.
Add the seasonings directly to the pan or mix them together in a small bowl first and add to the meat along with some water and any of the optional add-ins for added flair.
Step #3: Simmer.
Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 - 15 minutes. Serve hot.
How to serve
Serve over lettuce for taco salads or in these easy, soft & flexible keto tortillas for keto ground beef tacos. Then add your favorite garnishes! Here are some of my go-to's:
- tomatoes
- cilantro
- salsa
- avocados/guacamole
- sour cream
- shredded cheese
- lettuce
Storage instructions
Storing taco meat is super easy! Here are the details:
- Store: Store in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
- Freeze: Freeze in a freezer-safe container for 2 to 3 months.
- Reheat: Reheat on the stovetop in a bit of oil, in the microwave, or in a simmering sauce. Frozen meat can be reheated directly in sauce, or thawed and heated on the stove or microwave.
